Your Ferris Cat Exercise Wheel is designed to provide your cat with years of safe, enjoyable exercise. With a little routine care, you can keep it running smoothly and looking its best. The good news is that maintenance is quick and simple.
Caring for Your Wheel
Ferris Cat Exercise Wheels are built for durability using high-quality materials, including stainless steel hardware. Carrying out a few simple checks from time to time will help ensure your wheel remains in excellent condition.
Placement
Like most plastics, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can affect the wheel over time. We recommend positioning it in an area that avoids strong, continuous sunlight throughout the day.
Extreme temperatures can also affect the materials. As a general rule, if the room is comfortable for you, it’s an ideal environment for your wheel.
Cleaning
The running surface is made from durable EVA foam traction pads.
For routine cleaning:
- Wipe the pads with a damp cloth using warm water and a small amount of mild soap.
- Allow the pads to dry completely before your cat uses the wheel again to ensure a safe, non-slip surface.
Deep Cleaning
If the wheel requires a more thorough clean:
- Remove the wheel from the base and take it outdoors.
- Lay the wheel flat on its side.
- Wash using warm, soapy water.
- Rinse gently with a garden hose (do not use a pressure washer).
- A pet-safe disinfectant may be used if required.
- Allow the wheel to dry completely before reassembling.
Important: Keep the skate wheels dry. Avoid allowing water to enter the bearings, as this may affect their performance.
Routine Maintenance
Every so often, lift the wheel from the base and lay it on its side.
While the wheel is off the base:
- Vacuum away any dust, cat hair, or debris from czaround the skate wheels and frame.
- Check that all skate wheel bolts remain securely in place.
- Spin each skate wheel by hand to ensure it rotates freely and smoothly.
The skate wheel bearings are greased for life, so do not apply oil, grease, or any other lubricant, as this may reduce their performance.
Checking Nuts and Bolts
With regular use, it is normal for fixings to settle slightly over time. We recommend periodically checking all nuts and bolts on both the wheel and the base, tightening them if necessary to keep everything secure and operating safely.
A few minutes of routine maintenance every now and then will help ensure your Ferris Cat Exercise Wheel continues to provide many years of smooth, safe and enjoyable exercise for your cats.
